Police fired warning shots to protect the integrity of the New Patriotic Party's parliamentary primary re-run in Walewale after a ballot box was snatched by former NPP Yagaba-Kubori Chairman, Akamari Bawa.
The incident caused chaos, halting the ballot sorting in the contest between incumbent MP Hajia Lariba Zuweratu and Special Advisor to the Vice President, Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru.
The suspect was arrested, and the ballot box was sent to the police station for recounting in the presence of both candidates and the Electoral Commission.
The re-run was ordered following a court ruling in September.
