Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says his side of the House is ready to test the commitment of Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia towards his recently touted stance against taxation.

According to him, it is inconsistent that the NPP flagbearer and the head of the Economic Management Team (EMT) would shy away from responsibility amid the country’s hardship when he was a key part of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) negotiations.

This follows Vice President Dr. Bawumia's pledge to, among other things, abolish the electronic transactions levy, emissions tax, the proposed 15% Value Added Tax on electricity, and other taxes introduced by his government.

Speaking on JoyNews, Mr Ablakwa reiterated that the Minority will be pushing for the removal of some nuisance taxes through a private member's bill and will expect the Vice President’s support.

"The Vice President who sat in secret with the IMF and approved all of these taxes, now they have an opportunity. We are going to bring the private member's bill... We want to test his sincereity now. We are not going to wait untill after the polls," he said on the AM Show on Wednesday.

He added that Dr. Bawumia does not have to become president to ameliorate the hardship of Ghanaians.

He is of the view that the Vice President cannot be trusted to lead the country for the next four years.
