The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), together with the Trinity United Church, held a special thanksgiving service at the premises of Trinity Theological Seminary in Legon yesterday.

The special thanksgiving service was held, primarily, to culminate the Institute’s 40th-anniversary celebrations and to thank the Lord for a successful 2021. Additionally, prayers were offered to commit the new year and planned activities into God’s hands.

Delivering his sermon titled ‘Called to be a prophet’, the minister-in-charge, Rev Dr. Martin Obeng, advised the professional marketing institute to be Christ-like in performing marketing functions.

“As marketers, you have influence over the minds of people, therefore you have a responsibility to uphold good values in the practice of your profession. You have advertising, billboards, and all. You must use these to plant kingdom values and uproot negative societal norms,” Rev Obeng emphasized.

After proceedings, the leadership of the Institute shared with the congregation major milestones CIMG has achieved in the past few years.

Speaking on behalf of the National President was the Vice-President-elect and member of the Governing Council, Mr. Theodore Osae, who began his message with the Presidential Charter CIMG received by the passage of the CIMG Act, 2020 (Act 1021), with the main objects to set standards for the practice of marketing and to regulate the practice of the marketing profession in the country.

With the passage of the CIMG Act, 2020 (Act 1021), the CIMG now has the mandate to standardize marketing practice in the country; train marketing professionals, and bring the profession to a level comparable with any other globally.

“Currently, our legal team is working on Legislative Instrument to regulate the grey areas and gaps in the profession to operationalize the ACT. CIMG has worked hard to successfully launch its Professional Marketing Qualifications. Following the launch, the first batch of students commenced tuition in July and wrote the examinations in December 2021,” Mr. Osae intimated.

Narrating the feats from 2021, Mr. Osae said, “Last year, CIMG successfully conducted and produced Ghana’s first Customer Satisfaction Index on the banking industry. The report will serve as a baseline index for future customer satisfaction surveys.”

He indicated that the Institute has plans to churn out more research to contribute to marketing knowledge and the development of the country.

The Institute is now focused on expanding its consultancy capacity to enable it to

respond positively to the needs of the increasing number of businesses in the country, especially MSMEs.

CIMG will welcome other professionals who are currently practicing marketing in the country into our fold to diversify our membership base.
