1. The attention of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has been drawn to a publication making rounds on social media and on other news blogging sites in which a man purported to be a “Pharmacist” is seen disclosing information which he alleges to be the medical information of a certain Lawyer Maurice Ampaw.

2. In the said publication, the man in question, whose name is given as one Philip Nana Yaw Boadu is said to have declared that he regularly supplies medications to the said Lawyer Ampaw and went further to make many claims about the lawyer.

3. The PSGH would like to state categorically that Mr. Philip Nana Yaw Boadu is NOT a pharmacist and NOT a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. The PSGH further wishes to counsel media houses to conduct necessary due diligence on such matters, in this case, the status of the person as a pharmacist, before ascribing such professional status to individuals. The PSGH always stands ready to collaborate with media houses in this regard and on all other issues relating to pharmacy and pharmacists.

4. It is instructive to note that pharmacists are required to observe statutory code of ethics throughout their career to ensure high standards of personal and professional conduct. A pharmacist shall respect the confidentiality of information acquired during his/her professional practice relating to a patient and the patient’s family. Such information must not be disclosed to anyone without the consent of the patient or appropriate guardian unless the interest of the patient requires such disclosure.

5. The PSGH would like to assure the public that pharmacists remain an embodiment of trust and urge all Ghanaians to have a personal pharmacist whom they can call upon any time for advice, counseling, and health education particularly on medications they take either prescribed or over-the-counter.

Thank you.
