SMEs play a critical role in developing economies the world over. According to the World Bank, SMEs account for the majority of businesses worldwide. They represent about 90% of businesses and more than 50% of employment worldwide.

Access to funding is a major issue that impacts businesses and plays a key role in SMEs’ ability to initiate and innovate, improve efficiency, expand the scope of their operations, and create more jobs.

However, the majority of SMEs lack access to the funding they need to grow their businesses and become important contributors to job creation and economic development.

What are the challenges SMEs face? How can these be overcome? Are there funding opportunities for SMEs to explore?

The UBA Business Series seeks to provide answers to these questions and explores various ways SMEs can secure funding for their business.

UBA as part of its commitment to support the growth and sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSME) in the continent will organize the next edition of the UBA Business Series slated for Thursday, July 29, 2021.

The monthly event is an MSME workshop where business leaders and professionals share insights on running businesses successfully.

The upcoming edition of the Business Series will feature Benjamin Kofi Quansah, a certified Grants Management Specialist who will elaborate on how SMEs can access funding for their businesses.

Benjamin Kofi Quansah is an award-winning grant special with a strong background in financial management, strategy execution, global leadership, diversity and inclusion, and grants management. He is well endowed with knowledge in grants and funding. He indeed is an astute individual who is capable of sharing insightful thoughts on how SMEs can access funding.

Access to funding plays a key role in SMEs’ ability to initiate and innovate, improve efficiency, expand the scope of their operations, and create more jobs. Most SMEs are deficient in the ability to promote growth and expansion owing to the fact that they lack the funds they need to enhance economic development. For this reason, this edition of the UBA Business Series will touch keenly on the means of tapping funds to enable SMEs to reach the goal of the full establishment.
