Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School wins 2022 Cowbell Independence Day debate tournament

The indefatigable ladies of Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School have emerged winners of this year's Cowbell Independence Day debate tournament, this was after a heated debate battle between their contenders, Serwaa Kesse Senior High School in the assembly hall of Adisadel College.

The debate competition is an annual event from the Ghana Education Service which forms part of activities marking the Independence Day anniversary celebration of the country.

This year’s finals which mark the 25 edition of the competition saw both schools debate on the motion ‘Time changes nothing, the decision brings change’’, contestants took turns to showcase their intellectual prowess with the intent of convincing the adjudicators on why they are for or against the motion.

Speaking to the media after the event, the brand manager for cowbell, Mr. Joseph Ashong, expressed his excitement about the event and further congratulated the contestants for making it to the debate finals. He took the opportunity to reiterate the commitment of the Cowbell brand to continuously support the development of the Ghanaian student.

‘Our commitment to the development of the Ghanaian SHS students is one of the reasons for the partnership with Ghana education service in executing this project. Suffice to say that our products contribute to the cognitive development of the Ghanaian Child that is why initiatives like this receive the full support of the brand’.

Throughout the journey of this competition, we have witnessed great talents from the hundreds of schools that participated, and I believe that we can nurture these students as the great leaders of tomorrow. For their efforts, I would like to say both schools are winners.

Speaking on behalf of the Ghana Education Service, Deputy Director in charge of Quality and Access Dr. Kwabena Tandoh, shared his joy about both finalists being an all-female school and further recounted how he believes this will contribute to all efforts to empower women. He also expressed his appreciation for the relentless support from the Cowbell brand.

For winning the competition, each contestant from Mfantsiman Senior High School took home an enclosed cash prize, a laptop, and assorted cowbell products.

Their contenders, Serwaa Kesse Senior High School were also presented with an enclosed cash prize, an android tablet for all contesting students, and assorted cowbell products.

The event was attended by directors from the different units of the GES, Executives from Promasidor, producers of cowbell, teaching staff from both competing schools, and reps from the host school Adisadel College.

The competition was followed by a massive sampling of Cowbell food drinks to over 15,000 students of different senior high schools who thronged the Cape Coast sports stadium to witness the 6th March national parade.
