The Institute of Gender, Research, Education, and Development (iGRED) has undertaken a social media launch for its Learners’ Forum (LeaFo).
This initiative, one of iGRED’s flagship programs, aims at improving learning experiences among young people through transformative empowerment workshops that translate into high academic performance, a fulfilling academic journey, wholesome development of their unique talents, and exposure to knowledge that will help them make sound career development decisions.
iGRED believes that it is possible for learning to be easier and more effective if students are empowered to identify their individual learning styles. Teachers and educators can also be empowered to develop multidimensional teaching styles that will meet the specific need of diverse students in a classroom to achieve the overall goal.
The initiative comes at the back of several calls to change the traditional system of teaching and learning in schools.
In this vein, iGRED believes that just as any other activity requires skill to attain excellence, the teaching and learning process also needs to be approached with skill so as to ensure the optimum use of personal study as well as classroom time to enhance learning among students.
Further, the Learners’ Forum seeks to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, by complementing the efforts of the government in the provision of quality education.
However, the Learners’ Forum emphasizes lifelong learning and the use of knowledge for practical uses, in order to achieve the fundament goal of education, expanding the young Learners’ creative ability, academic acumen, and problem-solving skills.
The Learners’ Forum, also called LeaFo extends its benefits by being a platform designed to serve beneficiaries with opportunities for soft skills training among others that will help them transition from academia to the world of work more successfully.
iGRED is open to collaborating with all education stakeholders to execute its mandate to benefit every student in Ghana, through teaching, and student training workshops.
The institute has partnered with the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) on this program, and it is going to implement training workshops with materials endorsed and recommended by the Ministry of Education through the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).
