Nsawam, Jan. 13, GNA - Mr Andrew Yaw Nyarko Adu, the Akwapem South District Chief Executive on Monday inaugurated two projects at the Nsawam Government Hospital. ? The projects were an incinerator and a walkway to the male ward of the hospital. The incinerator costs 57.5 million cedis, while the walkway was supported by individuals and organisations.

Mr Nyarko-Adu commended the Micro Project Management Unit of the European Union (EU) and Akuapem South District Assembly for sponsoring the building of the incinerator, which was constructed by Global Organisation for Fundamental Aid (GOFA), a non-governmental organisation in the area of protection and conservation of water bodies at Nsawam.

He also expressed his appreciation to non-governmental organisations and individuals who assisted in constructing the walkway. Mr Alexander Y. Ayitey, Executive Director of GOFA said his organisation deemed it necessary to construct the incinerator as one of the interventions of preventing waste from the hospital into the Densu River.

Dr. Kwaku Sarfo, Project Manager of the EU micro project management Unit said the EU would continue to assist communities and institutions with the provision of infrastructure such as market, clinics, KVIPs, day-care centres and teachers' accommodations.

He said already about 1,850 projects have been completed throughout the country for the last four years.

Dr Albert Benneh, Senior Medical Officer in-charge of the Nsawam Government Hospital expressed appreciation to Mr Seth Danquah Wiafe, MP for Akwapem South for using some of his common fund to support the projects.

He appealed to individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the hospital to overcome some of the logistical problem it faces. Mr Kwadwo Ntiamoah-Mafoh, Management Consultant of Imas Limited, who chaired the function called on the people to desist from throwing rubbish around indiscriminately so as to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes in the area.
