The Ministry of Interior has renewed the curfew for Alavanyo and Nkonya townships and their surrounding areas in Ghana’s Volta and Oti Regions, effective from June 23, 2024.
The curfew restricts movement from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
The longstanding boundary dispute between Nkonya and Alavanyo, dating back to 1923, has led to ongoing violence, including a recent escalation in May 2022 that resulted in a fatal shooting.
The Ministry emphasized the prohibition of carrying arms or offensive weapons in the area, warning that violators will face arrest and prosecution.
