Nana Okyere-Kwame, Adonten Asokwahene of Aburi, has revealed that selling kenkey on Thursdays is a taboo in the town.
This tradition stems from the belief that the gods visiting Aburi on Thursdays dislike the scent of maize, and violating this rule would incur their wrath.
The law, established by forefathers, is strictly observed to prevent curses.
Stella Agyei, a long-time kenkey seller, confirmed adherence to this custom, highlighting the community's respect for their traditions. Aburi, located in the Akuapem South constituency of the Eastern region, is renowned for the Aburi Botanical Gardens.
