Mr Christian Corletey Otuteye, Member of Parliament for Sege in the Greater Accra Region has donated Personal Preventive Equipment(PPE) and assorted items local health facilities and communities.
The items included Veronica buckets, tissue paper rolls, masks, soap and gloves.
Mr Otuteye said three local persons had tested positive to COVID-19 so the belief that the virus was a hoax should be discarded.
He said apart from the presentation of the items, he had educated his constituents on the pandemic to enable them properly protect themselves.
"Some of the youth asked me, MP where are the people who are infected,"he said, adding that if such attitude, it was very necessary to sensitize the people.
The MP said the pandemic was a global problem which must be tackled together, urging constituents to adhere to the hand washing, mask wearing, sanitizer use and social distancing protocols.
He said he had presented GHs 2,000 to the health professionals in the area to purchase the N95 masks and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as well as fuel to enable them effectively embark on field work.
"I have arranged for fabrics for local tailors and seamstresses to produce 15,000 masks to be distributed to constituents to ensure that they fully comply with the mask wearing directive," he disclosed.
Mr Otuteye kicked against the politicization of the pandemic and called for a collective resolve to overcome it.
He reminded Ghanaians that this year’s elections was dependent on the outcome of the fight against COVID-19.
“ I'm not thinking about election issues because my survival and that of my people is vital and once we survive COVID 19, we would address other issues”.
