About 900 candidates of Odorgonno Senior High School and the Anson Senior High School are writing the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at the Odorgonno School premises at Awoshie, in Accra.
This year’s WASSCE examinations started two weeks ago.
At the Odorgonno SHS premises one out of the 770 candidates was absent when the Ghana News Agency visited the centre while three out of the 114 candidates of Anson SHS were absent.
Mr Samuel Bortey, Assistant Headmaster, Odorgonno SHS who took the GNA round the centre said the school received information that the candidate who was absent had travelled outside the country while the three others from Anson SHS were sick.
At the centre, everything was moving on smoothly with the invigilators and the candidates cooperating.
There was a police officer based at the centre to accompany officials to convey examination materials.
Mr Alfred Vaeta, Assistant Headmaster, Academic, who was in-charge of the WASSSCE at the Kinbu Secondary Technical told the Ghana News Agency that the school had never recorded cases of examination malpractices and so far students had conducted themselves well.
He said all the 360 students, who registered for WASSCE at the school had reported for the second paper, Integrated Science.
Mr Vaeta said Kinbu was a technical school and therefore begun the WASSCE on March 12 with the practicals and the examinations and had so far been smooth and successful.
At Accra the Academy Senior High School centre, the candidates were busy writing their examinations under strict supervision.
Mr Charles Twum Asare, Assistant Headmaster (Academics) who is also the Assistant supervising officer, West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) for the centre, told the GNA that three out of the 534 registered candidates had been absent.
“The examination has so far been smooth and incident free and we hope the students and all stakeholders would comport themselves in the same manner till May 17, when the examination is expected to end,” he added.
The centre has security personnel with enough examination materials.
Mr Asare explained that this was the second and last but one batch of students, under the Senior High School (SHS) Four-Year Education Programme sitting for their final examination.
The WASSCE examinations would end on Tuesday, May 17 with Metal Work and Costing.**
