A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth kept vigil at the Walewale Police Station on Wednesday to protect ballot boxes from the constituency’s primary held on January 27, 2024.

The primary saw 35-year-old Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru defeat incumbent MP Lariba Zuweira Abudu by 345 to 338 votes.

Dissatisfied, Hajia Zuweira challenged the results at the High Court in Tamale.

On June 24, the High Court issued an injunction against Dr. Kabiru, preventing him from presenting himself as the elected candidate.
