Asa Savings and Loans holds Breast Cancer Screening at Aboabo branches

The Aboabo 1 and Aboabo branches of Asa Savings and Loans in the Ashanti East Division of the company, has held a free breast cancer health screening for 107 women in the two areas.




Out of the total number screened, 30 women showed signs of breast abnormalities.

Branch Manager of Aboabo 1, Mr Daniel Adey said the intervention was to assist women to know their breast health in order to take early action in unforeseen situations.

Likewise, Mr Prince Nti- Kusi, Branch Manager of Aboabo Branch also explained that said the investment is being made to allow the women detect early signs and call for treatment as early detection saves lives.

Area Manager of Asa Savings and Loans in Aboabo, Ms Mavis Owusu Adwoa, explained that the gesture was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility which has become an annual happening.

She indicated that Asa as a company, cares for people generally but prioritizes the health of its customers and potential customers and their families.

The Oncologist Specialist from the Tafo Government hospital Mrs Angela Acquah, who supervised the screening, mentioned breast cancer is the common cancer affecting women in the reproductive age in Ghana.

To mitigate the incidence of morbidity and mortality cases, Mrs Acquah said it is imperative to harness advocacy of breast cancer screening to facilitate early presentation, detection, referral and management.

“The importance of treatment has led to instituting the month of October as ‘Pink October’ to aid screening and treatment” she emphasized.

Dr. Antwi Bosiako, a member of the medical team from Tafo Government Hospital also added that risk factors to breast cancer include smoking, alcoholism, late birth delivery, early menopause and late menopause among others.

Madam Georgina Mensah, a 68 years old survival patient of breast cancer, shared her experience and encouraged participants to take breast screening seriously, adding that it was early detection that saved her life.
