66th Independence Day: This is time for sober reflection, not celebration - Nana Yaa Jantuah

The General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah has stated that Ghanaians should boycott the Independence Day celebration when at 66 years we cannot buy vaccines for children and we are at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“What kind of independence do we have when Ghana is going back to her protegee?” She quizzed

Nana Yaa emphasized “Today should be a day of sobber reflection instead of funfair.

Why is it that today that we don’t have money, you are spending the little to refurbish stadium for independence day celebration?”

She has also demanded of the government to tell Ghanaians the amount of money spent on refurbishing the Ho Sports

The CPP general secretary added that the celebration itself should be boycotted not to even send to the Volta Region whiles the people who were affected by storms and tidal waves in that same region have not been taken care of.

She emphasized that this is not a good year for celebration considering the current social and economic circumstances of Ghana.

Nana Yaa Jantuah told Johnnie Hughes on the 3FM Sunrise Morning Show that instead of celebration, the government should rather engage stakeholders such as GUTA, GPRTU, and others to brainstorm on how Ghana can be brought out of the current economic crises.

Prominent persons such as former president John Dramani Mahama have all called for a boycott of the 66 Independence Day Celebration for several reasons including politicization.
