"After my in-laws asked my husband to divorce me because I am HIV positive, he committed suicide" - lady narrates sad incident

Margret born and raised in Muranga has painfully narrated how her husband committed suicide after his mother and sisters asked him to divorce her because she was HIV positive.

According to her is that she was brought up by her grandmother after her mother died soon after she gave birth to her, as she was growing up she started to get sick now and then and would be taken to the hospital.

One day after she got sick and was taken to the hospital the doctors confirmed that she was HIV positive and her mother might have given birth to her when she was HIV positive, she started her medication when she was still young.

After class eight her grandmother didn't have money to take her to secondary school and so she went to her aunt's place where she started working a manual job, while there she met a man with who they became lovers.

She told him her status and they went to the hospital and was given measures on how to live together without infecting him, they started living as husband and wife and were blessed with their firstborn.

She claims that when her sister-in-law came to visit them at their house, she saw the medicine on their bedroom table and she didn't ask her but after she went back home she told her mother who came to their house and asked her son why he married a sick person.

Margret says that her mother-in-law kept on pushing him to divorce her and since her husband loved her so much he decided to commit suicide due to the pressure his mother was giving him.

She says that after the mother-in-law came to mourn her son she chased her away claiming that she had infected her son with HIV and that was why he had committed suicide which was not true. she has urged people to stop stigmatizing people living with HIV.
