In the Ghanaian entertainment industry especially acting, the question of whether sex or not may be traded as a means to get viral or important roles in acting.
While there are many who maintain that it is common knowledge, there is not a great deal of evidence to support their assertions.
Ama Serwaa, a burgeoning Ghanaian actress and life coach, responded to a question about whether a producer has ever demanded sex from her before offering her a role during a one-on-one interview with Ekow Koomson on Ghanawekend TV recently which has gone viral. Ama Serwaa alleged that:
“Oh yes, because I don’t do that I don’t get a lot of roles to play..I have only acted in 6,7 major movies…but because i don’t do that i am not getting more roles.” I think in this industry people do give in take for important roles because when I refused I wasn't selected.
She claimed that despite the fact that a number of the movie producers had made sexual attempts toward her, she was under no obligation to reveal names because of fear of being sued or blacklisted in the entertainment industry.
