Following the resignation of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto as Minister for Food and Agriculture. The President , Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo tasked Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson to assume responsibility for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture effective Monday 24th January 2023 pending the appointment of a substantive replacement for the outgone Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
After the above arrangement, President Nana Akufo-Addo nominated the MP for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, as the minister-designate for Food and Agriculture following the resignation of Mr Owusu Afriyie Akoto. He was verted and approved by the parliament of Ghana.
Dr. Acheampong, a former Minister of State at the Ministry of the Interior and at the Ministry of National Security, is currently the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament.
He has a background in politics, business leadership, technology, media, intelligence, and security.
The accomplished politician and business leader is expected to continue with the transformation agenda in a sector at the heart of the country’s quest for food security, high industrialization, and economic growth.
On assumption of office on 4th April as sector Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Acheampong has been in engagement with key stakeholders to afford him greater insights into the challenges, opportunities, and potentials in the sector. ‘With a thorough understanding of the agriculture value chain actors, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture is able to offer a better service which is more focussed and specific to the needs of the stakeholders’this he said at separate stakeholders’ engagement platforms.
More importantly, the engagements have been structured to build consensus on charting pathways for achieving national targets of sustainable food security, promotion of exports and industrialisation. The cross section of stakeholders engaged so far include value chain actors of strategic commodities such as rice, soya, maize, tomato, and poultry.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong at a staff durbar urged management and staff of the Ministry to give off their best to support achieve the objectives of the Ministry. He assured management and staff of an open-door administration which calls for inclusiveness in decisions making.
