A 42-year-old Ghanaian midwife known as Esther D. has landed a lucrative job opportunity with the Nottingham University Hospitals in the UK.

Esther left her husband and daughter in Ghana to travel to the United Kingdom to pursue this opportunity which would help her cater for her family back home.

She revealed this in an interview with the Nottingham Post website.

According to her, she cried a lot before leaving due to how she would miss her family.

“I was crying all the time before I left, even when I was eating food.

“I’ve been working as a midwife for 16 years. I came to Nottingham for a masters degree and decided to stay,” she said. “In Ghana we followed much of English practices, we use a lot of text books that are produced here. I want to see mothers come here and be I charge of keeping them happy and healthy.

“I will see I have achieved a goal here, to care for mothers and their families. In my country I couldn’t get a masters and I wanted to follow my career path.”

Esther is one of three international nurses who have received employment with the Hospital.

They include Malia Ramezan from Iran and Karen Ma from Hong Kong.
