"I smuggled drugs for my best friend in Ghana in Ghana and I regretted it after this happened to me - Lady reveals

Beatrice Njeri from Nairobi painfully narrates how she agreed to smuggle drugs for her best friend in Ghana, who offered to pay her a huge amount of money, not knowing that she would regret it.

According to Beatrice who was born and raised in Nairobi, she finished her secondary education and relocated to Turkey to work as a househelp. She works there as a househelp for three years and she got another job as a kindergarten teacher.

While she worked as a teacher she met a young man and she got married. They were blessed with two children and they helped each other in paying bills. She also had a friend who was Ghanaian and they worked in the same school.

One holiday her friend asked her to join her on a vacation in Ghana for two weeks before the schools opened for the following term. She agreed and she bid her family goodbye and she went to Ghana.

She said that her best friend hosted her in her family home where they stayed for two weeks. When it was time to go back home to Turkey, her friend asked her to transport some drugs to her husband and she would be paid wholesomely.

She said that she was hesitant at first but after intense persuasion, she agreed. She packed the drugs together with her belongings and she went to the airport. As she was being checked into the plane the police realized that she was carrying drugs.

"The police at the airport realized that I was transporting drugs in my suitcase." She said.

She was stopped and taken to the police station where she was interrogated. She attempted to call her friend who had given her the drugs but she never answered her phone calls. She was taken to court days later and After several months of court sessions, she was convicted and jailed for ten years in prison.

She said that her friend abandoned her there and she resulted to taking different courses in prison to keep herself busy.

Life was difficult there and she faced different challenges including the language barrier and intimidation by other prisoners.

She was later released after she finished her ten years of jail term. When she came back to Kenya, she found out that her husband had remarried but she was reunited with her children. She also decided to join an organization that dealt with helping former prisoners how to transition from life in prison to be good citizens.
