MP must stop damaging Ghana's image - Oppong Nkrumah

Thu, 26 Jan 2023 Source: Ghana Trends

Ghana has long been seen as a beacon of democracy and human rights in Africa, but its reputation is being tarnished by the actions of its Members of Parliament. This was the strong message from Ghana’s Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who recently called on MPs to stop damaging the country’s image abroad.

Speaking to the press, Minister Nkrumah said that the country’s international reputation was being harmed by the conduct of some of its MPs, who were often seen arguing in the House and engaging in other unbecoming behavior.

He went on to say that this was a serious issue and that MPs should strive to maintain a dignified attitude while in the House and when representing the country abroad.

The Minister’s words come at a time when Ghana is making a concerted effort to improve its international standing and attract foreign investment. Ghana is already Africa’s fastest growing economy and is seen as a key player in the region, but this could be undermined if MPs continue to behave in an inappropriate manner.

The Minister also highlighted the need for MPs to engage in constructive dialogue and debate on the floor of the House, rather than resorting to personal attacks and mudslinging.

He argued that this would help to improve the country’s international standing, as well as creating a better environment for decision-making. It is clear that Ghana’s MPs have an important role to play in helping the country to maintain its reputation abroad.

They must remember that they are representing the nation and must act in a manner that reflects this. By doing so, they can help to ensure that Ghana remains a leader in the region and continues to attract foreign investment.
