Meet the powerful man who changed Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday

Tue, 31 Jan 2023 Source: Ghana Trends

God sets aside a day each week for rest and worship. The seventh day, or Saturday, was designated as sacred in the Ten Commandments for the Israelites. The Jewish people of ancient times observed the Sabbath from Friday evening to Saturday evening, resting on Saturday. On Sunday, some Christians gather for worship because it commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the day the Holy Spirit first spoke to His followers.

Who was the person?

Serbia was the birthplace of Constantine the Great in 272 AD. After the passing of his father, who was holding the drone, he was crowned Emperor. The most of that man's life was spent as a pagan, but he eventually started to embrace Christianity and despise other faiths. Later, he went to the Catholic and Orthodox churches, and the practise of sun worship quickly caught on. He put an end to Christians being persecuted and encouraged the construction of churches all around the empire.

What made him change the Sabbath?

On the first day, Constantine mandated that the Eucharist be celebrated as part of a corporate day of worship (Sunday). No strict Mosaic law prohibitions are implied by that command. He contended that the Sabbath is observed every day and that strict restrictions, including male circumcision and animal sacrifices before Abraham, were only practised by Moses and the Israelites. The first human generations, starting with Adam, Abel, Enoch, and Lot, did not observe the Sabbath, yet we were still pleasing God, he explained to the Romans.

His demise and interment

Knowing that his time on earth was limited, he made the decision to travel to the Jordan River to be baptised while feeling quite ill. He was buried on the church grounds after passing away while returning home.
