At 65, Ghana Does Not Need Ceremonies to Hand Over Buses to Schools- Kofi Asare

The Executive Director of Africa Educational Watch, Kofi Asare, has asserted that Ghana at this age doesn't need ceremonies to hand over school buses to schools.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, 30th May 2022, he wrote;

“I have always opined that, the job of handing over buses bought with our taxes to schools is so regular and basic that, it shouldn't require a ceremony.

Our District Directors of Education should be able to simply handle that, enabling our hard-working Vice President and 21st Century Minister of Education to focus on weightier policy and strategy issues.

At 65, Ghana does not need ceremonies to hand over buses to schools.

Dear Ghana Education Trust Fund, your continued embossment of the inscription ‘Donated by GETFund’, on vehicles distributed to schools and institutions is respectfully wrong.

For emphasis and education, GETFund is a portion of the citizen's taxes set aside by them to finance education development, hence, GETFund cannot donate buses to the citizenry.

A trustee cannot donate to beneficiaries what already belongs to them-Tautology!

GETFund can only distribute buses to schools and institutions; not donate.

While this 20th Century showmanship did not start today, it must end today.

I know Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum are very busy people. Sometimes, we worry our leaders too much!”

Background Information

At a brief ceremony at the Accra High Senior High School on Thursday 26 May, 2022, Dr. Bawumia handed over the keys for 75 buses and five pickup trucks to head tutors of the schools.

The beneficiary institutions include Lambussie Community Day SHS, St James Seminary, Begoro Presby SHS, Techimantia SHS, Odupong SHS, Asankragua SHS, Wa SHS, and Koforidua SHTS.

Others are: STEM SHS Kpasenkpe, Accra Academy SHS, Anum Boso SHS, Tepa SHS, Northern School of Business, Osino Presby SHS, Oti Boateng SHS, Tarkwa SHS, Asare Bediako SHS, Assin North SHTS and Bosomtwe Girls STEM SHS.

“In handing over these buses and pickups, I want to encourage the various schools receiving these buses and pickups to ensure a maintenance culture to harness the potential in these students for our transformational agenda.” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated.
