ECG Company Disconnects Power to Kotoka International Airport Over Debt

Wed, 16 Mar 2022 Source: Michael Djan

Unbelievable but true as the National Task Force of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited has cut power supply to the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) over debt of ¢49 million. The ¢49 million debt has to do with current and past electricity consumption owed by the GACL for six electrical meters, including the Terminal 3 and the runways.

the Team Lead, Nene Shadrack Mase, speaking with Joy Business stated that the debt is affecting the operations of the ECG, hence the need to embark on such distress action and the task force was expecting GACL at least to pay half of the debt 50% but the GACL Company decided to pay only ¢1m of the amount owed.

According to the task force, a prior notice was given before they arrived and moved to action on Monday.

Meanwhile, the good news is that, the ECG company did not disconnect the power supply to Terminal 3 and the runways at the Kotoka International Airport but the affected areas disconnected were the head offices and the office complex.

However, The Ghana ECG company disclosed that the only means to restore power at the Kotoka International Airport is to settle at least 50% of the debt.

They are expected to visit other Government institutions today for similar exercise including the Accra International Conference Center.
