Ghanaians Work Hard Only to Use Their Wages for Rent, Transportation and Food, They Can’t Save – Kafui Dey Laments

As a citizen in Ghana, I’ve also experience of living in this city. The joys, challenges and daily hustle. Accra is seen by some as a city with an array of endless possibilities and opportunities provided here is hardworking. Yes, Keyword here is: “hardworking.”

Others see Accra as a city full of disappointment and dashed hopes. Personally, I believe living in Accra is a daily hustle.

Ghanaian Broadcaster, an MC, an author. Over 2 decades he has interviewed over one thousand guests on radio and TV stations in Ghana. He disclosed how salaries of an average Ghanaian workers are used especially those in Accra.

According to the award-winning broadcaster Kafui Dey, nowadays salaries of workers in Ghana are being used for transportation, food, payment of rents.

He Twitted recently that; “The salaries/any money earned by most young people in Ghana and Accra especially is spent on food, transportation, and rent. Not sustainable.”

This comes after the rising of the transportation fares due to the constant hikes in fuel prices and the prices of goods in Ghana, particularly in Accra.

The latest press release by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC), explains what is accounting for the anticipated price hikes.

“Current Crude prices are at $124.96/barrel, resulting in processed Petroleum Products of $1,451.25/MT of petrol and $1,289.97/MT for diesel, coupled with further depreciation of the exchange rate of $1:GH¢8.0483 and the government’s applicable tax rebate of 15 pesewas per litre still in place till the end of June 2022.” He tweeted.

While life in Ghana may seem tough, the continuous work by the Government should be done to improve the situation in order to reduce poverty rate in Ghana.
