I Rejected All Allowances, Fuel Coupons, Cars at Ghana Gas; I Take ‘Only’ Salary – Owusu Bempah discloses
Owusu Bempah who is the Corporate Affairs Manager for the Ghana Gas Company says that even though he is entitled to some allowances and perks due to the position he occupies, he has denied himself those.
He says he wants to set an example to the younger generation that there is a need for them to serve the country without expecting to enrich themselves with state resources.
Owusu Bempah said “the politics you do; you should not expect to get rich because of a position you’re occupying”.
“Your platform is big and I’m setting the records straight here. When I got the opportunity to join Ghana Gas, there are a number of things I’m privileged to receive that I don’t take. Since I came to Ghana Gas I’ve not taken the company’s car, not that I’m not entitled to but I’ve never taken a company car.
Number 2, I’ve not taken a fuel coupon and I dare anyone to come and say otherwise. Number three things like travelling allowances and other privileges I’ve forgone them and finally the furniture in my office was purchased with my own cash,” he said.
He continued “I’m sharing this to encourage the youth coming up on the need for sacrifice. All I take is my salary and that is even supported by the Bible. The Bible says curse be on whoever works and doesn’t take his/her salary.
I live on my own unlike what people say that I’ve made money from Ghana. I’m doing this to tell the youth that there is a need for sacrifice for the country. You don’t join politics because of what you think you’ll earn from it. This consensus must come from a National stage so that we can take it from a different level so that we can see how much money we are spending on exgratia and how much money people are spending”.
He indicated that while Prof. Atta Mills was President, he set up a constitutional amendment committee to amend some parts of the constitution but it could not be amended because the Lawmakers in this country did not have the balls and no one complained or criticized them.
