Wed, 4 May 2022 Source: Michael Djan

Samuel Osei Kuffour is a Ghanaian retired professional footballer who played as a defender. Known for his great physical power, Samuel Osei Kuffour is best remembered for his time with Bayern Munich, whom he represented for over a decade, winning a total of 14 honors, and playing in nearly 250 official matches.

Ex-Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffour has revealed that he used to be a “bad boy” and that football helped uplift him from his difficult childhood.

The former Bayern Munich defender said he did some horrible things as a child and even sold marijuana at some point to survive.

Kuffour made the revelation during an honest interview with Erasmus Kwaw on the Heart and Soul Programme on GTV’s Lifestyle TV.

He disclosed; “I was a bad boy, I was a shoeshine boy, I was a wee seller, I was doing a lot of horrible things in my life as a young one.”

Kuffour played for the Black Stars from 1993 to 2006, making 54 appearances and scoring three goals in the process.

He was also part of the Ghana side that qualified for the country’s first-ever FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006.

The ex-centre-back also enjoyed a glamorous career with German giants Bayern, with whom he won the UEFA Champions League in 2001.

Kuffour became only the second player from his native Ghana to win the competition, with the great Abedi Pele triumphing with Olympique Marseille in 1992/93, the first UEFA Champions League in 2001 after its switch from the European Cup.

Nevertheless, Kuffour was successful in his respective era and deserve his place in both African and Ghanaian football as one of the best players the continent has ever produced.
