Per information gathered by educandghana, There is assurance that there will be benefits and some kind of allowances that will be enjoyed by teachers in Ghana. Although public school teachers across the country are required to get these perks, the employer occasionally declines to pay.
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) Leadership, Angel Carbonu has provided information indicating that although there are other issues on the bargaining table, the Cost of Living Allowances (COLA) payment is currently the main topic of discussion.
Teacher promotions for lower rank and higher rank, car maintenance allowance, responsibility allowance, distribution of laptops to teachers, and many other benefits and allowances are on the table to be discussed after the COLA discussions are completed.
All Junior High School teachers who have not yet gotten their computers are advised to give their names to their zonal chairmen so that they can be forwarded to the national, per NAGRAT’s directive. Primary school teachers will soon receive their TM1 Laptops, according to the association.
The union has however announced to its members that the narrative where only GNAT had a representative on the salary negotiation table has changed. Currently, NAGRAT and the remaining unions have also gained a member slot on the negotiation table.
Teachers have been told by Mr. Carbonu, President of NAGRAT, that this time he will not let his members down by accepting bribes.
Additionally, he has urged teachers to maintain their courage because the walkout won’t end unless COLA is authorized.
