Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on his re-election and defeat of far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, the Kremlin said Monday.
In a telegram, he wrote; "I sincerely wish you success in your state activities, as well as good health and well-being."
French President Emmanuel Macron has been stressing that he will continue to speak to the Russian leader to warn him about the dangers of continuing the cycle of violence in Ukraine.
Several other world leaders and institutions welcomed Macron's re-election.
Gabon
President Ali Bongo Ondimba of former French colony Gabon hailed Macron's "brilliant re-election".
"More than a shared past, our two countries have a future to build," he said in online comments.
