Who was Isaac Acquaye?

Isaac Acquaye was a former captain of the Black Stars, one of Ghana’s football most outstanding central defenders in the late 1970's. He played for two Accra-based teams, Standfast FC and Great Olympics, as well as Dumas (GTP), a Tema-based club, throughout his football career in Ghana's Premier League.

From 2002 through 2008, Isaac Acquaye had a nickname known as "Barrier,". After ending his career as a footballer, he became a coach. He coached teams such as Union Sportive Ouagadougou (USO) in Burkina Faso.

Additionally, he also managed three local clubs; Sekondi Hasacaas, Bechem United, and Accra Great Olympics.

According to a report gathered by footballghana, the former black stars’ captain died yesterday afternoon in Accra following a brief illness.

Burial plans would be disclosed later, according to a family spokesman.
