Monkey pox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monke ypox virus.
According to a recent report, monkey pox was declared a World Health emergency on 25 July after 16000 cases were reported from 75 countries. 98% of those affected are men who have sexual intercourse with other men.
However, the Director General of World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom released a statement on the importance of keeping one sexual partner.
For men who have sex with men and women with men, this includes, for the moment, reducing your number of sexual partners and reconsidering sex with new partners must be considered,” he said in a virtual press released I quote.
Additionally, he encouraged all the countries in passing this health message to its citizens. This statement has been made to sensitize people about Monkey pox infection and the public education is aimed to reduce “the risk and transmission of the disease.”
Aside sex, the disease can also be transmitted by hugging, kissing and contaminated sheets, towels and beddings.
