The E-Levy Tax: All Your Money Will Be Tracked and Deducted If Your Ghana Card and SIM Card Are Linked

Thu, 24 Mar 2022 Source: Michael Djan

On 17th November 2021, Ghana’s Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta announced the Government’s plan to introduce an electronic transaction levy (E-levy) during his 2022 budget statement reading. He mentioned that the move was necessary to “widen the tax net,” which would increase the country’s tax to GDP rate from 13 percent to 16 percent, or more.

The SIM and Ghana card linkage has been the headache of most Ghanaians recently as most people have to sleep at the centres till the next day, recent reports show how some pregnant women collapsed at the centres. More pressure was mounted as the date drew closer. This yielded good news when the ministry served public notice dated Tuesday, March 22, 2022 of date extension from now to 31st July 2022.

Disadvantages of E-Levy Charges in Ghana

Ghanaian controversial Journalist, Captain smart revealed the disadvantages of e-levy charges in Ghana that, they will be able to track all the monies you have in your account and deduct the E-levy they want to impose if you link your Ghana card and your SIM card.

According to Captain Smart on Onua TV yesterday 23 March, 2022 noted; “The main idea of the SIM cards and Ghana card linkage is because of the e-levy they want to impose. Because, linking the Ghana card and SIM card will help identify and monitor transactions on the MoMo numbers to be able to tax them correctly.”

Smart explained further by saying; “We are dealing with thieves, the agenda was there for E-levy, they wanted all of us to register our SIM cards with the Ghana cards, so they can be able to monitor, trace and evaluate the amount of money that will come to our mobile money numbers. So if you link your SIM card and Ghana card, they will track all your money and deduct the E-levy.”

Do you agree or disagree with Captain Smart with the e-levy charges in Ghana?
