Field observations from Zabzugu
Due to the lack of textbooks, many teachers spent all the period copying passages on the blackboard for students… with exercise books to copy; and many copied wrongly. Others who did not have exercise books were spectators. The teacher ends up spending twice or thrice the time required to complete that lesson. In sum, there is inefficient use of instructional hours due to the lack of textbooks.

Concerning lack of textbooks in schools, Mr. Kofi Asare said: “Sadly, the managers of our education system in Accra, people who were educated with textbooks, and whose children attend well-resourced private schools with textbooks continue to emphasize that, not having textbooks for over two years is not a problem because there is a teachers’ resource pack.”
Mr. Kofi Asare expresses his disappointment by saying, “I disagree. There is no replacement for textbooks in Ghana’s public basic school system.”
Now, how do we atone for this two year learning loss? He questioned Ghana Education Service.
