Who Is Hosting AFCON 2023 And When?

Fri, 16 Dec 2022 Source: Michael Djan

The funny thing about AFCON 2023 is it has a misleading name. The tournament will actually take place throughout January 2024 instead.

Ivory Coast will be the host nation for AFCON 2023.

-Why Will AFCON 2023 Be Played in 2024?

The decision to play AFCON 2023 tournament was due to weather issues. June and July are known as Ivory Coast's rainy seasons, and CAF president Patrice Motsepe did not want to run the risk of games being called off because of this.

"We cannot take the risk. January is not the ideal time because of the European clubs, but it is the only choice we have," he said.

-Who Has Qualified for AFCON 2023?

So far, only hosts Ivory Coast are confirmed participants for AFCON 2023.

Remaining qualification matches will take place in the March and September international breaks in 2023, with 23 teams.
