German coach who applied to lead the Black Stars is upset that GFA hasn't contacted him

Winfried Schäfer, a German coach who applied and shown interest in the coaching position with the Black Stars, has not yet been interviewed by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association. Exclusive to Happy Sports, a close source close to the coach disclosed.

The GFA established a five-person committee to find a new Black Stars coach after Chris Hughton resigned following yet another poor tournament at the 2023 AFCON. The committee was chaired by Vice President Mark Addo.

Within the allotted three weeks, the committee was inundated with over 600 applications, from prominent coaches like Schäfer, Nikola Jurcevic, and former West Ham coach Felix Magath.

Happy Sports can confirm that Schäfer's interview is still pending as the deadline for announcing the appointment of a new coach draws near. Some candidates have finished their interviews.

Schäfer, a former player in the Bundesliga with 403 games and 46 goals, has had an incredible coaching career. He won the DFB-Pokal and the Bundesliga in 1970 with two separate clubs. In addition to his accomplishments in Jamaica, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, he coached Karlsruher SC to the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 1993–1994 and led Cameroon to victory in the 2002 African Cup of Nations.

Happy Sports will keep an eye on this unfolding narrative as the GFA considers the Black Stars' next leader in the days to come.
