Ernest Kwamina Yedu Addison is an economist and the 15th Governor of the Bank of Ghana. He was the former Director of Research at the Bank of Ghana from 2003 to 2011 as well as an Economist at the African Development Bank.

Education

He attended the Mfantsipim School, Methodist College, and then proceeded to the University of Ghana for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from 1982 to 1986. From 1987 to 1989, he obtained a Masters's in Economics from Cambridge University.

Ernest Addison also has a Doctor of Philosophy degree in economics from McGill University.

Career

He began working with the Bank of Ghana in 1994 as an Economist. Rising through the ranks, he became the Deputy Chief and Head of the Economic Analysis and Policy Division of the Research Department.

He was a member of the Open Market Operations Committee, the Financial Policies Committee, and the Financial Programme Implementation Committee.

From 2000 to 2003, he was the chief Economist with the West African Monetary Institute and chaired an Economic Community of West African States Task Force set up by the Authority of Heads of State of ECOWAS. This was to perform feasibility studies culminating in the setting up of the West African Monetary Institute.

He also worked with the former Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, who was then the governor. In 2012, Addison was a lead economist at the African Development Bank's Southern African Resource Centre in Pretoria, South Africa.

President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, 2017 forwarded Addison's name to the Council of State for consideration and approval as the governor of the Bank of Ghana. This was to take the position of Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku after she resigned as the governor. He was then approved as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana on 1st April 2017.

Ernest Addison automatically became a member of a number of international agencies that deal with financial policy and management, including;

Financial Stability Board (FSB), a member of the Regional Consultative Group for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS), ex officio chairman of the board.

International Monetary Fund (IMF), ex officio member of the board of governors.
