The Iberian candidacy between Spain and Portugal for the 2030 World Cup has received support from the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF), according to their announcement.
Ukraine has declared that it will compete with Portugal and Spain for the opportunity to host the tournament. The two nations previously made unsuccessful bids for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments. Spain hosted the World Cup in 1982.
The bid is being made in the midst of the seven-month-old military war between Russia and Ukraine. According to The Athletic, the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky had approved of the ongoing discussions between the various federations and him.
At the 2030 World Cup, Ukraine is slated to host one complete set of group stage games. It will be the second tournament to have 48 teams, and FIFA might find it more tempting to spread it out over three nations.
Andriy Pavelko, president of the UAF and a member of the UEFA Executive Committee, has stated: "We are happy to join the European candidacy to host the World Cup in 2030. We are aware of how crucial this endeavor is for all of Ukraine right now. Millions of Ukrainian supporters hope for this.
