20 finished premix automated outlets will be put into service, according to the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson.

The majority of the sites should be finished and able to dispense fuel by the end of the year, she remarked.

She claimed that the creation of these outlets was intended to reduce the problems with intermediaries and stockpiling, which had made it difficult to successfully distribute premix gasoline to the fishermen.

At the 2023 closed season engagement with significant fishing industry stakeholders on Thursday in Accra, the Minister made this disclosure.

Mrs. Koomson further stated that the Ministry will continue to give the Fisheries Enforcement Unit authority to stop all illegal activity because the stakeholders have agreed that the success of the closed season implementation rests on their combined efforts.

In order to decrease bycatch and juvenile landings, the minister added, "Let me also mention that we have also changed the gear for the trawl vessels."

The Minister also allegedly issued a directive prohibiting trawl vessels from spending more than 30 days at sea on any one of their expeditions.

The attendees were given a presentation about a study on the 2022 closed season as part of the engagement.

All of the country's coastal fishers, who were represented by their various unions, attested to it and urged the government to keep up the enforcement.

Inshore and canoe fishermen's closed seasons for this year were set for 1 July to 31 July, and industrial trawlers' closed seasons were set for 1 July to 31 August.
