H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic, has dedicated a state-of-the-art police barracks for the Ghana Police Service at Kwabenya in the Ga East District of the Greater Accra Region.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Interior, the Lands Commission, and a private developer, Unique Development Company Limited, collaborated to build the new Barracks complex.

In order to free up property for the area's conversion into an aviation city, the Police Barracks close to Airport City will be moved.

President Akufo-Addo declared during the project's commissioning on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, that the nation's expanding population necessitates the development of creative solutions to the demand for housing, infrastructure, and public services in our major cities.

He claimed that the Urban Redevelopment Scheme was established to redevelop important urban districts with new infrastructure for this reason.

The Ghana Police Service would be able to relocate easily once the first phase of the Barracks complex is finished, according to the president, allowing for the start of the Aviation City reconstruction.

The first phase of the project, according to the President, consists of 322 one- and two-bedroom homes as well as other amenities like a school with up-to-date facilities, a clinic, an artificial football field, a tennis court, a backup generator, a police station, a fuel filling station, a workshop enclave, and other necessary facilities.

This, he claimed, is in keeping with the government's pledge to give security personnel in the nation appropriate housing, better their welfare, and increase their ability to serve the country more efficiently.

He asked the Unique Development Company and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to work diligently to complete the second phase of the Project, which consists of 102 dwelling units and other amenities. This would boost the total number of housing units for the Ghana Police Service to 514.

On his part, the President was congratulated for having the vision to modernize our urban cities under the Urban Redevelopment Scheme by Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, MP.

According to him, the government is revitalizing underutilized public lands in urban areas through this program in order to advance the socioeconomic progress of the nation and improve the appearance of our cities.

According to Mr. Jinapor, the Urban Redevelopment Scheme is being implemented in places like Kumasi Sector 18, which includes the Ridge, Danyame, and Nhyiaeso Residential Areas, the Aviation City in Accra, the Old Tamale Airport, and the Ridge Sectors 1, 2, and 3 Residential Areas in Cape Coast.

He claimed that the new Barrack and the other projects were built to make room for the redevelopment of the Aviation City.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC), the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), and the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) are among the organizations moving out of Aviation City that are being built similar projects to the Barracks, according to the Minister.

The Minister expressed gratitude to Unique Development Company Limited for working with the government to support the project.

He emphasized the significance of land for socioeconomic development and reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to keeping in touch with all pertinent parties in order to provide a solid and efficient land administration built on integrity.

The Interior Minister, who also spoke at the ceremony, thanked everyone who contributed to finishing the first phase of the project and called for the second phase of the project to be finished as soon as possible.

The President received assurances from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) that the Police would take excellent care of the facility and make sure it fulfilled its intended function.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, the Chairman, Executive Secretary, and Members of the Lands Commission, as well as Members of the Police Management Board were among the other dignitaries present at the ceremony.
