The Ministry announced in a press release dated 2 May 2023 that 74 Ghanaians arrived safely at Kotoka International Airport on Tuesday.
"They were greeted upon arrival by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, the Ghanaian Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union Commission (AU), Ambassador Amma A. Twum-Amoah, and other officials from the Ministry as well as some members of the Ghana Psychological Association," the statement said.

According to the Ministry, the remaining six Ghanaians were evacuated via the Egyptian frontier crossing at Wadi Halfa.
This increases the total number of Ghanaian nationals evacuated from Sudan to eighty (80).

The evacuation comes after a week of lethal conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which has resulted in hundreds of casualties and cut off humanitarian aid to Khartoum and other parts of Sudan.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 individuals have fled Sudan since heavy fighting broke out on April 15.
In Sudan, an additional 334,000 individuals have been displaced.

Officials have warned of a "full-blown catastrophe" if violence continues.
In the meantime, the Foreign Affairs Ministry commended other stakeholders for facilitating the evacuation and urged Ghanaians still in Sudan to contact officials for assistance and eventual evacuation.
