A man dozed off in a taxi and awoke to a nightmarish fare.

The trip cost nearly three times the average amount.

A man who fell asleep during an hour-long taxi ride from the airport to his residence was shocked and enraged to awaken to a $468 fare.

The passenger was so surprised that he posted a video to his TikTok account of himself questioning the driver about the amount.

Ryan, as he is known on social media, traveled from Melbourne Airport to Berwick, 75 kilometers distant, at a cost of approximately $160.

But Ryan's fare was nearly three times as much, and he demanded an explanation, so he confronted the taxi driver about the extortionate price.

"I just dropped you off at the airport. There are tolls and a freeway on the route,' the driver said."I am a brand-new minicab driver. How will you pay, pal?'

A man who fell asleep during an hour-long taxi ride from the airport to his residence was shocked and outraged to discover he owed $468.

After 'falling unconscious for 20-30 minutes,' Ryan persisted in requesting an explanation for why his fare was $468.

"Stop complaining about me, buddy. The driver responded in a defensive manner, "I am a taxi driver, not a bank manager."

However, the passenger refused to yield and sought a compromise. He asked, "I don't normally complain, but how do we figure this out?"

The cab driver replied angrily, "Guy, how about you pay the money and tomorrow you check what the f*** this is?"

When Ryan objected to the driver's tone, he received an apology but not a price reduction; instead, the price increased.

When he pulled out his credit card to pay, the reader displayed $486.72 instead of $468, an additional $18.72 on top of the already exorbitant fare.

A Google map depicts the route that Ryan's taxi, whose fare was three times the norm, may have taken.

The additional charge could have been for a booking fee, taxes, or a credit card surcharge, but Ryan questioned it by stating, 'You've added more.'

The driver replied, "Please, buddy, just hand me your card."

The now-deleted video with the caption "never fall asleep in a taxi" prompted numerous commenters to express their horror.

He saw a vulnerable individual and decided to take a risk. One said, "I wouldn't be able to control my anger."

Another said, "I would have asked him to drive me to the police station."

Others stated that it would prompt them to consider alternative modes of transportation. One poster wrote, "It's like a billboard for Uber."

Others were incensed by the driver's rudeness. One said, "The manner in which the taxi driver addresses you for asking reasonable questions is a disgrace."

The Daily Mail Australia reached out to the Victorian Taxi Association (VTA), but a representative stated that the association no longer represents metropolitan Melbourne taxis, only rural and regional Victoria.

The VTA suggested contacting Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV), but a spokesman for CPVV stated that the organization does not oversee fares; rather, it focuses on safety-related matters.

When Ryan objected to the driver's tone, he received an apology but no price reduction; instead, the price increased (illustrated).

Ryan must contact the taxi company if he wishes to lodge a complaint regarding the fare and the driver, according to the CPVV spokesperson.

Although taximeters can be manually adjusted to add additional fares, Daily Mail Australia does not believe that this was the case in this instance.

On receipts, additional taxi fare expenses such as booking fees and taxes are grouped together under the heading 'extras'.
