Nana Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaian employees that he is working tirelessly to expedite the nation's economic recovery.

He told the tens of thousands of employees who gathered in Bolgatanga for this year's May Day festivities that the IMF, structural reforms, and other measures are producing results.

Contrary to the assertions of his detractors, he stated on May 1, 2023, his government is steadily enhancing the economy.

President Nana Akufo-Addo informed Ghanaian employees that he is working tirelessly to restore economic prosperity and single-digit inflation levels.

On May 1, 2023, in Bolgatanga, where this year's May Day celebrations were held, he told workers that the debt exchange program, the upcoming IMF loan, and other structural reforms placed Ghana on a path to begin the phase of economic recovery shortly.

Thousands of Ghanaian employees will gather in Bolgatanga in 2023 to celebrate May Day.

For the first time in Ghana's history, May Day festivities were conducted in Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region.

It was held under the theme "Our Responsibility to Protect Incomes and Pensions in a Time of Economic Crisis."

May Day, also known as International employees' Day, commemorates employees' and the labor movement's past struggles and victories. It is celebrated annually on May 1 in many countries.

Government efforts to mitigate economic difficulties are extensive.

Contrary to the assertions of his detractors, President Akufo-Addo told the tens of thousands of employees gathered in Bolgatanga that the government was making steady progress in improving the economy.

"Inflation is decelerating, interest rates on government treasury notes are falling, the cedi's depreciation is slowing, and GDP growth for 2022 has exceeded expectations," he boasted.

He acknowledged that restoring peace in Bawku, an epicenter for conflict in the region, would be a fitting legacy for his administration.

TUC demands that Akufo-Addo halt cathedral construction.

President Nana Akufo-Addo is urged to cancel the National Cathedral project and transform it into a "national hospital" initiative.

Dr. Yaw Baah, general secretary of the TUC, gave the advice during a speech commemorating this year's May Day.

Dr. Baah also brazenly advised the president to reduce the number of his ministers and other appointees to reduce the government's enormous expenditures.

Government employees warn against touching pensions.

YEN.com.gh previously reported that the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), the largest workers union in Ghana, warned the government against including pensions in the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme prior to the parade.

In a statement issued to commemorate this year's May Day, the union stated that including pensions in the DDEP violates employees' pensions.

The finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has urged the Board of Trustees of pension funds to permit the inclusion of pension funds in a revised DDEP.

Individual bondholders have also protested against their inclusion in the DDEP, citing the minister's allegedly untenable proposals.
