Cecilia Abena Dapaah's resignation from her position as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources has been praised by Ghana's President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Dapaah held that position under Akufo-Addo's administration.

On Saturday, July 22, less than 24 hours following the public disclosure of her stolen monies, Madam Abena Dapaah submitted in her resignation.

After accepting her resignation, President Akufo-Addo praised the former member of parliament for Bantama for her "excellent and productive" work during her time in office.

"It is with considerable regret that I accept your resignation, and I applaud your loyalty to the image and standing of the government," he wrote to her on Saturday. "It is with considerable regret that I accept your resignation."

"The work that you undertook during your period in Government was excellent and productive, and I would like to thank you for your wholehearted contribution and devotion to the progress of Government and the nation."

In her resignation letter, Madam Abena Dapaah informed all state authorities of her availability and assistance in looking into her situation, which she admits has become a "hindrance" to the government at this "crucial" moment. She also stated that she will retire effective immediately.

She went on to say in her resignation letter, "I have no doubt that at the end of the processes it will be established that I have conducted myself with integrity during my period in public service and I will be fully exonerated from all of the allegations." She said this despite the fact that she was the subject of many allegations.

In addition to this, President Akufo-Addo voiced his conviction that "at the end of the day, your integrity, while you are in office, will be fully established."

The issue of the missing monies, which include one million dollars, three hundred thousand euros, and an unknown number of millions of Ghana Cedis, is currently being litigated in court. Wednesday, August 2nd is the day that has been set aside for the recall.
