Two bodies were found in a galamsey pit at Odumase, which is located in the Ashanti area.

At Odumase, which is located close to Konongo in the Asante Akim Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region, the bodies of two adult males were found after they had been imprisoned in an illegal mining pit for some time.

Earlier reports suggested that there were three miners who had become trapped, but fortunately, one of them was able to break out while the other two were killed in the accident.

It has been established by officials working for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Municipality that the hole collapsed while the illegal miners were within it looking for gold reserves.

In order to recover the dead, the NADMO officials were forced to recruit the assistance of a local excavator operator as well as others of the community.

The bodies were safely extracted from the mine shaft thanks to the united efforts of everybody involved.

According to Jones Osei Asamoah, the Director of the Asante Akim Central Municipal NADMO, the deceased individuals have been moved to the mortuary in order to undergo additional testing and identification procedures.
