General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, also known as IBB, is a Nigerian statesman and military general who served as the country's military head of state from 1985 to 1993.
During the administration of General Muhammad Buhari, he also served as Chief of Staff of the Army from January 1984 to August 1985. Babangida rose through the military ranks and participated in the Nigerian civil war. He was a main plotter in Nigerian military coups.
On September 6, 1969, he married his sweetheart, Mariya Muhammed monarch. Together, they produced four children: Aisha, Muhammad, Aminu, and Halima. On December 27, 2009, Maryam Babangida passed away due to complications from ovarian cancer.
The former first lady was renowned for introducing several initiatives to improve the lives of women.
