Obi attacks INEC over bias in the 2023 election.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of prejudice. According to POLITICS NIGERIA, Obi believes INEC should maintain neutrality in electoral contests between candidates.

In a response he submitted to the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), Obi criticized the electoral body for submitting a preliminary objection in support of Bola Tinubu, the president-elect and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Obi, both the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal had previously cautioned INEC not to place itself in a position where it could be accused of favoring one political party over another.

Recall that in response, the electoral body had urged the Tribunal to dismiss the petition lodged by Labour Party and Obi, arguing that the requested relief was not available. Obi, who placed third in the election held on February 25, criticized INEC, citing the apex court's ruling in Attorney General of the Federation v. Abubakar (2007) 10 NWLR (Pto 1041) that the electoral commission must not only embrace neutrality as its guiding principle, but "must always remain fair and focused."

"The 1st Respondent, forgetting its function as an election official, filed a Notice of Preliminary Objection to contest the alleged incompetence of the Petition. Obi stated, "The global best practice for electoral referees in national elections is that an electoral body must avoid giving the impression that it has no regard for neutrality in an electoral contest between candidates."

"The appellate courts have repeatedly cautioned the 1st Respondent about the necessity of remaining neutral during election proceedings. "Therefore, it is not only an embarrassment but a repudiation of the duty of the 1st Respondent when it adorns the garb of a contestant in an election it conducted as an umpire to raise preliminary objection against an Election Petition as in the case hereof. "The expectation is that INEC will maintain a neutral stance in all litigations where participants in elections are challenging the outcome of the elections.

Anxiety as the Supreme Court today considers the appeal of Nnamdi Kanu

On Thursday (today), the Supreme Court will hear the appeal lodged by the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, regarding his continued detention at the Department of State Services, DSS. The secessionist lodged an appeal with the Supreme Court on November 3, 2022, against the Court of Appeal's decision to halt his release from DSS custody.

Kalu filed an appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal dated 28 October 2022, which stayed the execution of its earlier order clearing him of all charges and ordering his release from the custody of the secret police. Sir Ifanyi Ejiofor, the main counsel for the IPOB, announced in a statement that the appeal will be heard on Thursday morning.

He conveyed optimism that God's grace would "prevail in judgment over today's Supreme Court proceeding." The statement reads, in part, "Please be advised, Ezigbo Umuchineke, that the Supreme Court of Nigeria will this morning hear an appeal regarding the continued illegal detention of our tireless client, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

"We are confident that the Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama will exert absolute control over today's events."We will keep you informed regarding the outcome of the legal pyrotechnics that will occur in court today. "Thank you all, Ezigbo Umu Chineke, and remain blessed"

MoneySign Suede was slain in a California penitentiary.

MoneySign Suede, a rapper, was fatally stabbed in a California penitentiary.

On April 25 at 9:55 p.m., it was discovered that the 22-year-old rapper was absent from a census. The "Back to the Bag" rapper was discovered unresponsive in a different section of the Soledad Correctional Training Facility. At approximately 10:00 p.m., he was pronounced deceased despite attempts by prison staff to administer emergency care.

The incident compelled prison officials to restrict prisoner movement while they investigate with the assistance of the Monterey County District Attorney's Office and the Monterey County Coroner, who will ascertain the cause of MoneySign's death.

MoneySign's counsel, Nicholas Rosenberg, told the Los Angeles Times that the rapper was stabbed in the neck while in the shower, shocking those who knew him.

Suede joined Atlantic Records in 2021 and released "Parkside Baby" in September of last year. He was incarcerated there after being sentenced in Riverside County in December to serve two years and eight months for two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
