Herdsmen in Kwahu have finally agreed to move their cattle into the ranches built by the former president John Agyekum Kuffuor and the current president of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo to curb the annual reoccurrences of clashes between peasant farmers and cattle heads men.
This year in Kwahu Afram Plains south, clashes between peasant farmers and cattle heads men claimed three lives where one of the three victims was beheaded.
The former president John Agyekum Kuffuor and the current president Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo established four cattle ranches.
Two are located in the Kwahu Afram Plains North, Amankwa and Mem Chemfre cattle ranch and in the Kwahu Afram Plains south, Wawase and Forifori cattle ranch.
Currently, two ranches in operation are Amankwaa cattle ranch, located in Kwahu Afram Plains North with an intake capacity of six thousand cattle (6,000).
The other ranch was built by the current president Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo called Wawase cattle ranch, located in the Kwahu Afram Plains south with a total land size of one mile square.
The intake capacity of the Wawase cattle ranch is ten thousand (10,000) cattle. The other two (2) farms were abandoned.
Last week Friday, the chairman of the National cattle ranch committee, Dr Kwame Oppong Anane together with the director of animals production Mr Edwin Bekoe, from the ministry of agriculture and some stakeholders held a meeting with the cattle heads men at the district capital of Kwahu Afram Plains North, Donkokrom to sensitized the heads men on how important it is to move the cattle into the ranches.
Speaking to the two district chief executives, Hon. Evans Kyei Ntiri and Hon. Isaac Nana Okorie, DCE for Kwahu Afram Plains North, disclosed that Friday was the last day set aside for the cattle located in the two districts to move into the ranches and failure to comply will result in either moving from the district or will be shot by the operation cowley, they said.
The chief of Fulanis in Ekye Amanfrom, Alhaji Sandari, in the Kwahu Afram Plains south expressed worry about the incident which occurred during the clash when one of their people was beheaded, he called on authorities to investigate that crime and bring the perpetrators into a book. He added that if justice failed to be served, they would have no option but to seek justice.
