EFCC Arrests Suspect With N32.4m For Vote-Buying, LP logo missing on ballots, Ondo.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) intercepted the sum of N32,400,000 in Lagos on Friday, allegedly meant for vote-buying.

According to a statement posted via EFCC’s official Twitter handle, the recovery was made by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Commission and the suspect involved has been taken into custody for further questioning.

The statement read, “The massive operation by the EFCC to deter vote trading and other financial malfeasance ahead of tomorrow’s presidential and national assembly elections may have begun paying dividends with the interception in Lagos of the sum of N32,400,000 (Thirty-two Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira) allegedly suspected to be used for vote buying in Lagos. The recovery was made by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Commission.

LP logo missing on ballots in Ondo

Barely 24 hours to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Labour Party, in Ondo state, has raised an alarm over the omission of the party’s logo in the ballot papers sent to the state.

The party, however, called on INEC to the postponement of the election in seven House of Representatives and one Senatorial area across the state until the needful was done.

Addressing newsmen in Akure, the state secretary of the party, Abiodun Agbaje, alleged that it ” was a deliberate act to disenfranchise our supporters.

Agbaje listed the seven House of Representatives areas where the party’s logo was missing Owo/ Ose Federal Constituency, Akoko South West/ East, Akure North / South, Akiko North East/ West, Ilaje/Ese- Odo, Okitipupa/ lrele, Ondo East/ West.

Polls: Airplane Flies Through Ebonyi Airspace

Flight patrol of an airplane suspected to be a jet fighter is patrolling the airspace of Ebonyi State raising fears as to what can be the mission, hours before the presidential and national assembly elections.

Governor David Umahi in a bid to calm frayed nerves has called on Ebonyians not to entertain fears on the flight patrol of Officers of the Nigerian Air force across the State.

Governor Umahi made the call while speaking with newsmen in Abakaliki, Friday.

The Governor clarified that the operation was to ensure miscreants do not exploit opportunities to cause the breakdown of law and order during the general elections.

“We also got a surprise package from Security Chiefs from Abuja all geared towards having a free and fair election. Ladies and gentlemen, let me inform you we have a flying Officer from the Nigerian Air force, Enugu.

“I want Ebonyians to know that they would be flying low to maintain law and order so you should not entertain any fears.”

Governor Umahi while assuring that efforts have been put in place to ensure hitch-free elections in the State, said the efforts were to instill confidence in the voters, as the deployment of electoral materials and personnel have been concluded to ensure free and fair elections.

The Governor expressed concern about possible cases of the existence of fake election observers and urged Security Agencies to checkmate the situation.

Heavy Security In FCT Abuja As Electoral Body, INEC Begins Distribution Of Sensitive Materials

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s office in the Federal Capital Territory’s Bwari Area Council is heavily guarded as the commission is currently distributing sensitive and non-sensitive election materials to Registration Area Centres.

Sensitive materials, BVAS, ballot papers, and result sheets, arrived at the office in the early hours of the morning from the FCT INEC office.

The various political party chairs were on the ground to monitor the distribution of the materials.

Speaking on the distribution, INEC’s Assistant Area Officer Admin in the council, Veronica John, said there were 1940 polling units across the council and that the distribution of the sensitive materials from the Registration Area Centres to the polling units would commence at midnight.

She said the commission was satisfied with the security arrangement in the area, adding that all the stakeholders party representatives would monitor the distribution.

According to her, accreditation and voting would go simultaneously in all the polling units.

She said the office had received technical staff that would attend to any hitches that might occur with BVAS machines.

Tomorrow Is Election Day’, INEC Chairman Insists

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election will hold as planned on February 25.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu made this known at a media briefing on Friday in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

His assurances come a few hours before the presidential poll slated for Saturday, February 25, 2023.

“Generally speaking, the situation is calm in the country as far as our preparation is concerned,” Yakubu
