Economic suffering should be fully the responsibility of the government, according to Mahama

Mahama, John

On Monday, former president John Dramani Mahama urged the government to focus on cutting spending and accept full accountability for the financial hardships afflicting Ghanaians.

"Ghana is currently on her knees for a bailout with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) amidst intensifying hardships, rising cost of living, and a depreciating cedi," he claimed.

On his campaign tour, Mr. Mahama, who is running for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer post, addressed party officials in the Krachi East Constituency.

Given that the current IMF plan would be distinct from all other bailouts the country has undergone, he recommended the government to concentrate on social intervention programs and cut spending.

This will be the first time a country of this kind starts an IMF program with debt restructuring.

The government's refusal to consider any sensible or helpful suggestions from others on how to collaborate for economic growth, he claimed, was the NDC's bigger issue.

"Government must stop attributing the nation's economic hardship to the Ukraine-Russia war and explain the precise challenges to the populace," he said.

Mahama is scheduled to stop in Krachi, Nkwanta North, Nkwanta South, and the Akan Constituency in the Kadjebi District to wrap up his campaign tour.
