Ghanaian traders take on Nigerian engaged in wig sale at Makola

On Monday, some Ghanaian merchants confronted a Nigerian who was selling human hair extensions at the Makola market in Accra.

The Ghanaian merchants accused the Nigerian of interfering with their business by engaging in retail sales, which is against the law in Ghana.

The Nigerian woman was accused of selling inferior wigs at discounted prices, despite her claim that she was organizing an exhibition.

The Wigs and Hair Extensions Dealers Association of Ghana was dissatisfied with the decision and complained about expatriates disregarding Ghana's standard trade regulations.

Nana Adwoa Enninful, president of the association, addressed the media and encouraged expatriates to sell their products through the proper channels.

"As you may be aware, we pay taxes, have stores and rents to manage, and employees to pay. The majority of these foreign investors evade the majority of these taxes. Currently, there is an issue with a purported Nigerian investor who arrived claiming to have an exhibition.

"As it turned out, it was a liquidation sale and not an exhibition. Our laws prohibit foreigners from working in retail. If you wish to join us, you are welcome; we do not have any issues with any country, but you must follow the proper procedures," she stated.
